30 Installing user software on a Windows computer

TO SET UP IPX (NOVELL) PRINTING WITH WINDOWS 95:

1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and then click Printers.

2. Click the icon for the printer and choose Properties from the File menu.

3. Click the Details tab in the Properties window and click Add Port.

A list of connection options is displayed.

4. In the Add Port dialog box, specify the network path, or click Browse for a display of

your network environment.

5. If you are using a NetWare ﬁle server, double-click the icon of the NetWare ﬁle server

you want to use for printing to the printer and click OK.

6. Click the printer icon labeled with the NetWare print queue you will use and click OK.

7. In the Add Port dialog box, verify that the network path is updated and click OK.

You are ready to print from the workstation.

Your print jobs will be transmitted to the speciﬁed print queue on the Novell ﬁle

server. The printer will poll the ﬁle server, and if jobs are present, they will be

transmitted to the DocuColor.

8. To conﬁrm the connection, you can print a Windows 95 test page. Click the General tab

in the Properties dialog box.

9. Click Print Test Page.

10. Click OK.

Completing the Windows printing connection

If you don’t have a Novell network, you can print via Windows printing, also known as

SMB or WINS printing. Printing by this method allows you to print from your

computer to a particular queue (Print or Direct) on the DocuColor.

Check with your network administrator to determine whether this type of connection

is appropriate for your network environment. You might need to specify additional

settings. For example, if your computer and the DocuColor are on different subnets,

you might need to enable WINS resolution and specify a WINS Name Server.
